Q & A Thursday: Literary Edition

Someone asked me the other day what kind of books I liked to write. I told them I like to write all kinds of books, but I firmly believe that it’s not the type of book you write that defines you as a writer. It’s all about the style, the voice.

So I’m making up a better version of that question.

Q: How would you describe your writing style?

A: Let me answer your question with a story. Let’s say that the writing styles of some of my favorite authors were living entities. Once upon a time, the irreverent writing style of Suzanne Brockmann met up with the witty brainchild of William Goldman. They fell madly in love, and birthed a Brockmann-Goldman-esque style child. Meanwhile, in another part of the world, the dark style of Tami Hoag was mating with the twisted, lyrical style of Dean Koontz; and another style child resulted. Then, in a somewhat disturbing turn of events, the Brockmann-Goldman progeny met the Hoag-Koontz spawn…and Pow. Lust at first sight.

Nine months later, my writing style was born. The end.
