Ouch.

When you think about it, it’s amazing how much time we humans spend trying not to get hurt.

Whether we’re avoiding heartbreak or a punch to the face, it’s all pretty much the same reflex.

But think about how disproportionate that is, the amount of time and effort it takes to avoid something painful, vs. a fleeting moment of physical pain or a short stint of wallowing in self-pitying tears. Even to a small child, it’s over before you know it.

So what are we so afraid of, anyway?

  1. Sweet Title reference V!

By the way, good post. It hit kinda close to home, so I took care of something I’ve been nervous to do tonight. Good timing!

Oh, and nothing naughty or dirty. Pervert. Just some unpleasantness from the Guard.

  2. I see what you did there!

Sometimes avoiding one is more complicated than the other. A punch in the face is often avoided by keep one’s mouth shut… and ducking.

Heart break? That takes work, trust building, falling down and getting up again and again… and I suppose that’s the point… when you finally understand that there is so much to learn in the falling and rising that you’re able to embrace it, rather than flee.
